This is a post that I’ve been meaning to write for a long time.
If you’ve been by the shop anytime in the past month you will have noticed for sale and for lease signs strapped to the front fencing. They are indicators of change in the near future, but I’ll get to that in a moment.
When we started up in Vernon, we were told that it was a huge risk and that we would have to prove both the quality of our product and that the Okanagan had any kind of demand. A year and a half later, hundreds of thousands of bagels sold, a host of wonderful reviews peppering our Facebook and Google presences, and with consistent wholesale demand, that initial mission is accomplished. We’ve learned a tremendous amount and we’ve been buoyed by a wellspring of community support.
Before I say anything else, a huge thank you to everyone who has believed in, encouraged, and shared their energy with us.
Now for the future. In order for Bonsai Bagels to emerge financially viable, we need to move out of the old Tita’s building. It’s too big and too far off the beaten path at this point in the life of the business. We are going to transition and it’s going to be a little messy.
There may be a period of instability where we need to pause operations. We need to find a small space in the downtown where we either partner with an existing business or with some new business? The situation is pretty fluid right now… but the key is that we don’t plan on disappearing or shuttering – we love real bagels, we love providing for the community, and we love the relationships that we’ve built.
Stay tuned!
