Discovering a Type Face

How important is a font, anyway? I’m not sure, but I think I’ve found the font for me.

Here were my requirements:

  • Variable type-face.
(Check out John Hudson’s Article on Medium for context)
  • Meshes with the core values of Community, Artistry, Transparency
  • Modern
  • Easy to read
  • A few nice variations / font family

The font? Syne, an open-sourced font hosted on GitLab.

Man, do I ever have a lot of links in this post… so, what can I say about the font? I really like it and I think that it’s pretty easy to read. Further, it was developed in 2017, which is the year I started thinking about opening this business. That’s a cool coincidence.

Additionally, it was developed by a group of talented people based in Saint-Denis (pretty much Paris) for an art centre… couldn’t be much better. As it would happen, both of the best Montreal bagel shops are very near Rue St. Denis in Montreal.

Plus it just looks great:

There’s more, but I’m just going to leave off at this point. Suffice to say, I’ve found my font.
